Abstract: Understanding how the discourse around a scientific publication changes over time may help us understand the way knowledge diffuses and may also help us better characterize and detect research fronts. To do so, we need methods to determine the change of discourse over time, with respect to the overall citation structure of the published literature. Recent work has pointed to the use of citation context - the text around a citation - as a mechanism for better understanding the discourse around the cited publication. In this work, we perform analyses that use citation context to understand the temporal change in discourse around publications using a corpus of Nobel Prize winning papers as an entry point. We create a dataset of citation contexts pointing to those papers and study discourse around these papers before and after winning the Nobel Prize.
