Abstract: zolpidem is an imidazopyridine sedative-hypnotic drug used to treat insomnia.this is mediated via zolpidem's positive allosteric modulation at the benzodiazepine site on a specific GABA a receptor, which increases GABA mediated inhibition in certain areas in the brain.By exploring it's mechanism of action and effects on sleep of normal individuals, using research done with EEG,PET and other tools i could hypothesize on the reason why zolpidem was found to increase alertness in certain comatose patients.
