Abstract: In this dissertation I analyze with the Public Archaeologys bias the role that the archaeological heritage has played in building the maroon identity of Chacrinha dos Pretos community, located at Belo Vale, Minas Gerais. This research was developed with the aim of questioning the idea that archaeological heritage is essentially physical and static and that it can be decoupled from the socio-cultural relations and practices that it involves and where it acts. In this sense, this research advocates for a Decolonial Archaeology and criticizes the archaeological practice in Brazil that understand the archaeological heritage as a physical entity, reproducing and reinforcing the nationalist and colonial discourse of State.
