Scoping Review of the Relationship of Resilience and Psychological Well-being in Postsecondary Students amid the COVID-19 Pandemic
Year: 2022
Type: preprint
Abstract: Since January 2020, COVID-19 has infected millions and taken the lives of over 850,000 in the United States alone (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2022). Although the physical effects of the virus are well-documented (Carfi et al., 2020; Hampshire et al., 2021; Kashif et al., 2021), the psychological impact is less publicized. Due to social restrictions on college campuses, postsecondary students are at risk for psychological distress (Cao et al., 2020; Chi et al., 2020; DeVylder et al., 2021). Postsecondary students are those enrolled in an educational program after graduation from high school (United States Department of Education [USDOE], 2008). These students are from undergraduate and graduate schools as well as technical community programs (USDOE, 2008). Resilience is a factor that can impact one’s ability to respond to stressful events successfully, thus having the potential to promote psychological well-being (Liboro et al., 2021; Lopez, 2011). This scoping review will examine and clarify the relationship between resilience and psychological well-being in postsecondary students during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also identify any knowledge gaps within the existing literature. References: Cao, W., Fang, Z., Hou, G., Han, M., Xu, X., Dong, J., & Zheng, J. (2020).
