Abstract: The primary purpose of this thesis was to explore the role and predictors of intervention adherence and investigate the impact of therapist guidance in a digital psychological self-care program for mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety with a 1:1 randomisation to the intervention with/without receiving therapist guidance. The secondary purpose was to investigate whether the intervention reduced symptoms of depression and/or anxiety using the self-assessment questionnaires Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7). The results indicate that adding therapist guidance does not significantly improve intervention adherence (neither the average of weeks in the program nor the number of participants that completed the program). Adherence was significantly predicted by education level and how credible the participants rated the intervention. The ratings on PHQ-9 and GAD-7 were significantly reduced post-intervention, η2 p = .40 and .32, respectively. The results showed no difference between the groups. The results are discussed in terms of the development of the intervention, limitations, areas for future research, and the possibility of administering the intervention in routine care.
