Abstract: Introduction: at a time of a reduction in medical offer coupled with the aging of the population, home visits appear to be a problematic practice for general practitioners. The objective of our study was to take stock of the organization of home visit by general practitioners as well as to identify avenues for improvement. Methods: this is a qualitative study using semi-structured individual interviews. 14 general practitioners carrying out home visits were interviewed. They were installed in the Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques or Hautes-Pyrénées. Results: doctors report the same obstacles to home visits as in previous studies: timeconsuming, lack of remuneration, uncomfortable environment, etc. Also the positive aspect of the overall assessment of the patient in their “natural environment”. It emerged that a good informatic tool with mobile access to professional software was associated with a feeling of quality of care. Teamwork also emerged as a criterion for quality of care, particularly in the context of a coordinated exercise. The doctors, for the most part, wanted to promote an opencompartmentalized practice with other stakeholders in the home. Conclusion: home visit seems to constitute a constraint in the practice of the general practitioner even if it constitutes a central element of general medicine. Coordinated exercise and software with good accessibility at home are described as factors bringing quality to care.
