Abstract: This article is about "Protection of high-speed main lines from short circuits". The article deals with protection against short circuits: the causes leading to short circuits on high-speed main lines can conventionally be divided into the following two groups: 1) causes of an accidental nature; 2) causes of an operational nature. The first group of causes includes the failure (flashover) of contact network insulators due to atmospheric and switching overvoltages, the touching of the live part of the contact network against its earthed part as a result of natural disasters, and the failure of the overvoltage limiters of the contact network.
