Year: 2020
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Automated insulin delivery is a rapidly developing technology in mission of improving glycemic control for patients with type 1 diabetes. There are ongoing clinical trials and several recently published articles addressing efficiency and safety of this treatment strategy, frequently referred to as "Closed-loop" technology.Auspicious results have been documented across the line, revealing significant improvement in glycemic outcome for users of all ages. However, recent studies show decreased use over time when observed for longer periods. The primary objective of this thesis is to further examine this paradox in hope of discovering ways to maintain the usage of this technology.Few clinical trials researching closed loop technology have investigated user experience and perspectives during use in a home setting for a longer period of time. Those who have, reported issues concerning usability.Previous Closed-loop users described technical difficulties and safety features intruding daily life and psychosocial well-being.
