Abstract: In this review, Mazlum Özkan examines the edited volume Struggles for Rights, Justice, and Democracy in Paraguay, a comprehensive exploration of grassroots movements shaping Paraguay’s political and social landscape. The book covers a broad range of actors—peasants, indigenous communities, women, labor unions, and students—detailing their struggles against neoliberalism, conservative ideologies, and historical repression. While commending the case-based richness of the chapters, Özkan critiques the book’s lack of a unified theoretical framework, particularly in its treatment of labor and indigenous resistance. Nevertheless, the volume contributes significantly to Latin American social movement literature, offering essential insights into democratization, citizenship, and activism in Paraguay.
