Exploring the Intersection of Political Extremism and Conspiratorial Beliefs

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: To what extent does political extremism predict belief in conspiracy theories, and is there a significant difference within ideological domains like gender? Conspiratorial beliefs are more prevalent among political extremists compared to demographic factors. Party ideological alignment plays a stronger role than gender in shaping conspiratorial beliefs. This theory posits that individuals on the extreme ends of the g political spectrum are more prone to hold conspiratorial views due to cognitive biases, distrust in institutions, and identity reinforcement.
