Abstract: The article analyzes the status of the central Bank of the Republic of Bulgaria and its bodies. It indicates the place and purpose of the functioning of the central bank institution in the system of state bodies. It sets out the circumstances that led to the establishment of the specified state institution. The article describes the year and conditions for the establishment of the Bulgarian National Bank. It indicates the regulatory and legal act that provides modern legal regulation of its functioning. It notes about new law that regulates its activities, and conditions for its entry into force. Explains the definition of the status of the Bulgarian National Bank and its location. It analyzes the possibility of creation of branches and representative offices within the country and abroad. A comparison of the size of the bank’s capital under current and new legislation was made, and attention was paid to the form of ownership of its capital. It lists and analyzes the structural bodies of the Bulgarian National Bank, their powers, the procedure for their formation. It indicates the number of members of the Governing Council. It lists the criteria established by law for occupying positions in the structural bodies of the bank. The term of office of a member of the Governing Council is indicated. The procedure for convening meetings of the Governing Council and their frequency, the procedure for making decisions at such meetings are determined. There is outlined the powers of the Governor in general terms. Took attention to the constitutional feature of the Republic of Bulgaria regarding the possibility of electing the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank to the position of the acting Prime Minister of the state. The three main structural divisions of the Bulgarian National Bank are determined, indicating their main areas of operation. The “Essue”, “Banking”, “Banking Supervision” are distinguished. A comparison of the functions of the “Essue” department under the current and new legislation is provided. The purpose of the functioning of the “Internal Audit” department and the criteria that its employees must have are analyzed. A conclusion is drawn on the compliance of the structural structure of the Bulgarian National Bank with the purpose of its establish and the functions it performs.
