Abstract: Now a days alcohol is extensively used in medicines as a preservative, compulsory ingredient, vehicle etc. Homeopathic mode of treatment has revealed surprising effects of medicines in an extraordinarily small amount that had reduced the cost of medicine on one hand and had lesser side effects on the other hand. While manufacturing homeopathic medicines alcohol is used extensively as a vehicle but as we know that Islam declares all Sedatives as illegal while alcohol is a major sedative. Besides prohibition of Alcohol in Islam, Islam also considers the safety of human life among fundamental human rights. Hence human needs of treatment and Islamic principles of Legal and Illegal (Halal wa Haram) bump into each other. The flexibility of Islamic jurisprudence allows to find the solution of contemporary problems keeping in view the guidelines of Quran and Sunnah. Therefore, the study of different opinions of Muslim Jurists and Ijtihad of contemporary Islamic Institutions of Collective Ijtihad in this respect is very necessary so that we may find a solution to this very important modern problem and determine the factual status of alcoholic medicines in Islamic Shariah and guide the Muslim society, homeo pharmaceutical companies and Homoeopathic practitioners.
