Year: 2012
Type: article
Abstract: In academic literature on the subject it is assumed that being subjected during one’s childhood to various forms of aggressive behaviour and violence affects development of personality and negatively determines further functioning of an individual in different spheres of life, i.e. attitude towards oneself (self-esteem and self-acceptance), ability to cope with exposure to stress, interpersonal contacts and one’s level of manifestation of anxiety and aggression. Despite the commonness of this theoretical stand there are relatively few reliable empirical studies verifying this view. The main purpose of research was verification of the thesis which states that being a victim of violence as a child unfavourably of children in children’s homes and it manifests itself in excessive anxiety.
