Abstract: I aim to bring the popular speech of the 20th century closer as a vehicle for studying words on the brink of extinction, like fossils of a recent past. The forms and uses imposed by historical tradition, its customs, and social habits lead us to the speech employed by the speaker within the system. Speech, as an object of study, refers to the use each speaker makes of the system. I provide a brief history of its evolution. I include a vocabulary reflective of the period, complemented by proverbs, sayings, and expressions. I also focus on children and their games. This is a treatise on rural life
