Abstract: Neurofilament Light Chain (NfL) is a neuronal cytoplasmatic protein highly expressed in axons. NfL significantly increase upon neuroaxonal damage not only in the cerebrospinal fluid but also in blood, proportionally to the degree of damage. Data supporting a role for plasma NfL as both a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in patients with motor neuron diseases and cognitive impairment
