Abstract: The article focuses on different experiences and expressions of psychotic anxiety in Greenland. We present a comprehensive understanding of the patients` experiences as meaning creating and suffering. In this attempt, we make use of the phenomenological, psychoanalytical and existential psychological framework of understanding. We emphasize the significant differences as well as the fundamental similarities between the psychotic and the non-psychotic person. We argue against the claim that only the patient as a person can be psychotic and not the symptoms as such. On the contrary, we believe that the patients in their humanity are much more complex and richly faceted than their psychotic symptoms suggest. In a following article, we identify the patients` experiences in a linguistic, cultural and historic context.
