A two-step mitochondrial protein import pathway to regulate protein stability

Year: 2023
Type: dissertation
Abstract: The disulfide relay system represents the major import pathway into the IMS of mitochondria, MIA40 and ALR as the system's key components. In this study, the interaction between yeast Erv1 and its electron acceptor cytochrome c was explored.By using solution NMR spectroscopy, we could show that Erv1 and cytochrome c interact in a collision type manner which underlines that cytochrome c is the preferred electron acceptor of Erv1.The efficient interaction between both proteins prevents ROS production in the IMS.
