Year: 1999
Type: dissertation
Abstract: The voters of California, in November of 1996, approved Proposition 209, which terminated all affirmative action programs in employment, admissions, and contracting throughout the State. As a result, the use of racial preferences in university admissions at the University of California was no longer a viability. This graduate project provides a description of the events that served as an impetus for the University of California to develop new directions in the preparation and recruitment of qualified and eligible applicants, particularly minority students, for admittance.lV
