Abstract: In the mental health care system, people who receive diagnoses of severe mental disorders run the risk of being considered and considering themselves as chronically ill and incurable, with the consequent loss of hope in the therapeutic process and the reduction of their agency. Multifamily groups welcome people with severe mental health problems and their families, generating a space for meeting and dialogue, encouraging the search for meaning in experiences of suffering, and strengthening supportive interpersonal ties. Thus, they make it possible to start a process of change and improvement, which involves the person and their environment. This article aims to reflect on the therapeutic potential of multifamily groups at an individual, family, and social level, from the experience of one of these groups existing in the public mental health care network.
