Abstract: This research examines the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in shaping regional geopolitics, specifically its strategic role, relationships, and sources of influence and networking that shape the geopolitical environment. The active initiatives and contributions of member states demonstrate the importance of regional cooperation and the SCO's role as a key contributor to regional stability, security and detente in a world of rapidly changing developments. The qualitative method is used, employing inductive and empirical processes, including observations and documentation of official documents, reports, academic articles, and case studies. The SCO’s contributions have created several key opportunities, including improved regional connectivity, energy cooperation, trade routes, and increased diplomatic engagement, all of which are crucial to strategically balancing the region. This progress nonetheless faces challenges related to the differing priorities of member states, security matters, economic inequality within the membership, and infrastructure limitations, which hinder coherence, effectiveness, and the speed of member cooperation. This article concludes with suggestions and recommendations that can support the SCO’s future contributions to regional geopolitics and the potential impact it can have on the region.
