Abstract: This article aims to present a historical overview of the Brazilian social security system, beginning with the Getúlio Vargas administration, when the system's structuring began, and continuing through some legislative changes in recent years. The analysis incorporates a qualitative and bibliographical approach, drawn from official Brazilian and foreign vernacular sources. It briefly presents the emergence of the Welfare State in industrialized countries, the Brazilian Social Protection System, and the current challenges facing this system in Brazil's healthcare, social assistance, and social security systems within this neoliberal dynamic.
