Leveraging Celebrity Influence for Social Behavioural Transformation: A Strategic Policy Approach in Media and Entertainment
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper explores the growing impact of media and celebrity culture on youth behaviour and its potential to be strategically harnessed as a tool for social development. While celebrity influence often drives fashion, lifestyle, and consumer choices, the study argues that, through structured policy and regulatory frameworks, it can be redirected to promote values such as dignity, honesty, responsibility, and civic consciousness. Drawing on behavioural science, social learning theory, and management perspectives, the paper examines how the entertainment industry can serve as an alternative corrective and educational mechanism. It proposes interventions such as structured training for influencers, value-driven regulations for record labels and media producers, and government collaboration with celebrities as partners in policy-making. The study concludes that if effectively managed, celebrity culture can become a powerful instrument for mitigating moral decline and cultivating responsible citizenship, particularly among youth in developing societies.
