Biodegradation: A Formidable Approach to Curbing Oil Spillage
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Oil spills pose severe environmental threats, contaminating marine and terrestrial ecosystems and causing long-term ecological and economic damage. Biodegradation, the natural process by which microorganisms break down oil hydrocarbons into simpler compounds, offers a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to mitigate these disasters. This review explores the mechanisms of biodegradation, its advantages over traditional remediation methods, current challenges, and emerging biotechnological advancements that enhance its efficacy in curbing oil spillage.
