Abstract: Mathematical communication is carried out during mathematics lessons. Through communication, students discuss and argue mathematically in order to present their thoughts and perspectives on a mathematical problem. In teaching Numbers and Operations with the aim of developing mathematical communication competence for Grade 5 students, the focus is on concept formation, rule acquisition, and problem solving. Teachers design appropriate learning activities so that students have opportunities to develop mathematical communication competence.
