Abstract: “Open conservation works” is a concept for popularizing heritage conservation through various initiatives that increase access to a monument for people during ongoing conservation work. The word “open” refers not only to the actual possibility of entering the site and observing the work “live.” The main intention of the project is to open up to the local community and tourists, sharing the space with specialists and expanding knowledge. The article presents examples of initiatives from three European historic cities, whose main focus was the local community. These activities, by creating a bond between the community and the monument, can influence the sense of cultural identity.
