Reading Between the Frames a Sub-textual Analysis of Selected Films
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This question digs deep into the hidden space behind the open surface of the cinema production, subtext, and the silent lexicon that ironically tells more than actual dialogue. Through a eclipse analytic review of scrutinically selected works (films) on the thalers of time and culture in addition to the Bicycle Thieves, Psycho, Pather Panchali, and insinuating works of the Buddhist culture such as Manpura and Hawa), this study elucidates how the motifs of complex affectivity, sharp social criticism, and cultural happenings exist within soft visual devices, sonic scores and narrative deficiencies. Subtext becomes a powerful tool that enhances spectator interaction, arousing affect and cognition which look beyond the ordinary narrative canons. This article challenges the way that the subtext informs the memory, provokes critical analysis and re-conceptualizes the film as only entertainment to a highly textured phenomenon of human experience and artistic expression.
