One World, One Currency- A Blockchain Blueprint for the Future of Global Finance
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The global financial system has long been characterised by a multiplicity of national currencies, each reflecting sovereign economic policies but collectively producing inefficiencies, exchange rate volatility, and uneven benefits across nations. The dominance of the United States dollar as the default global reserve currency has offered stability to some, yet entrenched asymmetries in economic power and exposed smaller economies to vulnerability. This paper explores the concept of a one world currency powered by blockchain technology, presenting both a theoretical framework and a practical blueprint for its development and governance. Drawing inspiration from decentralized digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, the stability of asset-backed stablecoins, and the growing experimentation with central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), the study proposes a hybrid, decentralized model of global money. Unlike previous centralized attempts, such as the Bretton Woods system or the IMF’s Special Drawing Rights, the proposed framework is rooted in transparency, inclusivity, and distributed governance across nations and independent bodies.
