Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli Induced Mastitis in Goats
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Mastitis is a pretty common issue in goats, especially when it comes to their mammary glands. It usually happens because of infections that cause the udder to become inflamed, which not only affects the amount of milk produced but can also mess with the quality. In some serious cases, it can even lead to lasting damage to the udder. Poor milking hygiene, dirty environments, and weak immunity all raise the risk of mastitis. What makes things trickier is that, in animals like goats and sheep, mastitis often doesn’t show clear symptoms, this is, called subclinical mastitis. The milk might already be affected, but there’s nothing obvious to notice. Among the main troublemakers of mastitis, bacteria are the most common. Two bacteria in particular cause a lot of problems, that is, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
