Smart IoT-based medication adherence system for real-time patient monitoring and alerts

Abstract: Medication adherence is a critical aspect of effective healthcare management, particularly for patients with chronic illnesses. Non-adherence to prescribed medication can lead to adverse health outcomes, increased hospitalizations, and additional healthcare costs. This paper explores the design and implementation of a Smart IoT-Based Medication Adherence System (SMAS) aimed at improving medication adherence, real-time patient monitoring, and timely alerts. The system integrates wearable devices, mobile applications, and IoT-based sensors to track medication intake, monitor patient vitals, and provide alerts to healthcare providers and caregivers in case of non-adherence or any health anomalies. The system's potential to enhance patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs is also discussed.
