Land Use Efficiency in Lakhisarai District
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Lakhisarai District, located in Bihar, India, is characterized by diverse land use patterns influenced by its agrarian economy, geographical features, and socio-economic factors. This study evaluates land use efficiency in Lakhisarai, focusing on the optimization of agricultural, residential, commercial, and other land uses to support sustainable development. The analysis is based on land use data, agricultural productivity metrics, and socio-economic indicators. Key findings reveal that while agricultural land dominates, with crops like rice, wheat, and pulses being primary, inefficiencies arise due to fragmented landholdings, outdated farming practices, and limited irrigation facilities. Urban and peri-urban areas show moderate efficiency in residential and commercial land use, but rapid, unplanned urbanization poses challenges. Factors such as soil fertility, water availability, and infrastructure development significantly influence land use efficiency. The study recommends adopting modern agricultural techniques, improving irrigation systems, promoting land consolidation, and implementing planned urban development to enhance land use efficiency. These measures aim to balance productivity, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic growth in Lakhisarai District, contributing to regional development goals.
