Compound Verbs in English and Uzbek and Their Relationship With Word Combinations
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Compound verbs are morphosyntactic and semantic constructions formed by combining two or more elements to express a single verbal idea. In both English and Uzbek, compound verbs play significant roles in expanding verbal meaning, adding aspectual, directional, causative, or aspectual nuances, and interacting closely with word combinations (collocations, phrasal verbs, light-verb constructions). This article examines the nature of compound verbs in the two languages, their typology, how they relate to fixed and semi-fixed word combinations, and implications for translation, language teaching, and linguistic description.
