A Thermodynamic Interpretation of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

Type: article
Abstract: We propose a novel interpretation of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle within the framework of the Quantum-Extended Thermodynamic Gravity Hypothesis (QTGH). In this approach, the uncertainty principle emerges not solely from the non-commutativity of quantum operators but from thermodynamic constraints on energy and entropy flow within a structured quantum vacuum. We hypothesize that the vacuum possesses intrinsic energy and entropy distributions, with particles manifesting as localized perturbations in this entropy field. Efforts to precisely determine a particle’s position disrupt the vacuum’s thermodynamic equilibrium, inducing momentum fluctuations as the system re-equilibrates. This perspective reframes the uncertainty principle as a fundamental limit imposed by the vacuum’s response to measurement disturbances, with the reduced Planck constant ℏ representing a minimal unit of entropy-energy coupling. While speculative, this hypothesis provides a fresh lens on quantum uncertainty and suggests potential connections between quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and gravity.
