Implementation, improvement, and validation of a unified depth-averaged framework for bedload and suspended sediment transport

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This record contains the Python scripts and processed data required to reproduce the main diagnostic figures of the manuscript entitled “Implementation, improvement, and validation of a unified depth-averaged framework for bedload and suspended sediment transport” (Lupinski et al.). The archive includes:(i) the laboratory datasets used in the study, compiled from Guy, Simons & Richardson (1966), for both the large-flume and small-flume validation cases (results_V2.csv, data_smallFlume.csv);(ii) post-processed numerical outputs extracted from TELEMAC-2D/GAIA simulations (results_df1_200_15.csv, results_df1_200_15_VariablesPrives_hs_vs_Tstar_dote.csv);(iii) pre-assembled comparison tables matching simulated, measured, and analytical reference values for the different retained model configurations (comparison_results_all_parameters.csv, comparison_results_all_parameters_test0.csvcomparison_results_all_parameters_test1.csv,comparison_results_all_parameters_test2.csv,comparison_results_all_parameters_test3.csv,comparison_results_all_parameters_test4.csv,comparison_results_all_parameters_test5.csv,comparison_results_all_parameters_test6.csv comparison_results_all_parameters_smallFlume_test0.csv, comparison_results_all_parameters_smallFlume_test4.csv, comparison_results_all_parameters_smallFlume_test6.csv);and (iv) the Python scripts used to regenerate the manuscript figures: Fig4_EUSTM_validation.py Fig5_simulated_measured.py Fig6_logratio_Tstar.py Fig7_hs_hsalt_versus_Tstar.py Fig8_simulated_measured_smallFlume.py Fig8_logratio_Tstar_smallFlume.py The scripts are designed as stand-alone figure generators. They reproduce concentration-comparison plots, logarithmic ratio diagnostics, transport-stage analyses, and analytical curves for saltation height and characteristic transport height. The simulation outputs are derived from the TELEMAC-2D/GAIA modules of the openTELEMAC system, as described in the manuscript. (iv) README.txt with instructions Simulation outputs are derived from the TELEMAC-2D/GAIA module of the openTELEMAC system (https://opentelemac.org/) runs as described in the manuscript. In addition to the figure-reproduction material described above, this record now includes the openTELEMAC steering files and the modified source code usedto run the coupled TELEMAC-2D/GAIA simulations of the study, so that the numerical set-up can be inspected and the reported runs reproduced by users of the openTELEMAC system. These files are provided in the archive `EUSTM_openTELEMAC_files.zip`, which contains: * the TELEMAC-2D steering files `t2d_Guy_Test100.cas` and `t2dinit_ExpIMFT_Test100.cas` (initialisation and production runs); * the GAIA steering file `gaia_Guy_Test100.cas`; * the mesh and boundary-condition files `Mesh1.slf` and `Mesh1_BC.cli`; * the driver scripts `Automatisation_KJL.py` and `automatisation_morpho_KJL_V3.py` used to launch and post-process the runs, together with the results table `results_V2.csv`; * the `user_fortran/` directory containing the modified openTELEMAC V8P4 source code implementing the Extended Unified Sediment Transport Model (EUSTM). IMPORTANT ! status of the Fortran source code. The files in `user_fortran/` are modified openTELEMAC V8P4 source routines developed specifically for this study. They constitute a working research implementation, not an official software release. The EUSTM is planned for integration into the openTELEMAC system in a future official version (expected 2027-2028); the source code distributed with that official release will differ from the working files archived here (in structure, interfaces, and keyword handling). These files are therefore made available for transparency and reproducibility of the present results, and should be used together with an openTELEMAC V8P4 build; they are not intended as a general-purpose or forward-compatible EUSTM distribution. Users seeking the maintained implementation should refer to the official openTELEMAC release once available.
