If God Obeys Law, Why Not Man?

Abstract: This paper examines the theological foundations for the rule of law through an analysis of divine obedience as presented in Christian Scripture. Drawing primarily from Psalm 138:2, Matthew 5:17, Romans 13:1-7, and Deuteronomy 17:18-20, this study argues that God's reverence for His Word and Jesus Christ's submission to fulfill the law establish a moral blueprint for ethical leadership and governance. The research demonstrates that divine self-limitation under law provides a paradigmatic model for human institutions, suggesting that no individual or entity, regardless of power or position, should operate above the law. Through textual analysis and theological interpretation, this paper proposes that emulating this divine ethical model can foster justice, societal order, and sustainable development in contemporary governance structures.
