Bias in the Research Lifecycle: Model and Guidelines

Abstract: The Bias-Aware Data Lifecycle Model, created by the Combatting Bias project, shows where and how bias manifests at different research stages, allowing for targeted interventions at critical points. It provides structured guidance for addressing bias throughout the dataset creation process, by including guidelines, questions to consider, recommended documentation practices and resources. This is not a definitive or comprehensive list of tasks, guidelines and concerns. We are aware this list should evolve - but we hope this list can promote awareness around bias and encourage dialogue.
