Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article explores the historical and cultural significance of the “Commemorative Medal of King Rama X’s Ordination,” created to mark the ordination of His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha on November 6, 1978. The medal embodies Thailand’s religious devotion, artistic tradition and royal ceremonial heritage. Various editions were produced, including gold, silver, gilt bronze, plain bronze and a special numbered set, all consecrated through sacred Buddhist rituals. The consecration ceremonies were presided over by eminent monks and revered masters from across the country, imbuing the medals with profound spiritual value. Artistically, the design reflects the late Rattanakosin style, depicting the Prince in serene monastic composure, symbolizing purity and discipline. Far beyond its role as a collectible object, the ordination medal represents a spiritual legacy that unites royal devotion, Buddhist faith and the enduring hope for peace and harmony in Thai society.
