Abstract: Liquid dosage forms can be administered by oral and parenteral (injectable, inhalation, ophthalmic, optical, nasal, and topical) routes. Oral liquids are nonsterile, whereas liquids administered by the parenteral route are both sterile and nonsterile mixtures. The liquid formulations may be provided as reconstitute powders or as ready-to-use liquids. This article describes manufacturing procedures, quality assurance and control, physicochemical parameters that affect liquid formulation characteristics, and regulatory requirements for the production of both sterile and nonsterile liquids.
