„Okay wir richten es ein bisschen schön und gemütlich ein.“ – die Bibliothek der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover als Dritter Ort

Abstract: This paper is based on a bachelor’s thesis in the field of information management as commissioned by the library of the Hannover Medical School (MHH). The institution aims to change its learning spaces to meet the needs of current users. This raises the question of which specific measures should be implemented in a targeted manner. To determine users’ specific wishes and ideas, two types of empirical surveys were conducted as part of the bachelor’s thesis. One was a short survey in written form with open-ended questions. The other was a focus group interview that explicitly referred to a currently unused room within the MHH library. Based on the results of these surveys, a target group-oriented concept for two rooms within the library was subsequently developed. The focus of the sub-concepts was on the one hand on the implementation of a multifunctional room that can be used as a conference room or as a breakout area, and on the other hand on a redesign of one of the library’s two reading rooms.
