Abstract: The purpose of the study was to assess construction project monitoring and evaluation practices in Dire Dawa Administration. The research designs was used for this study where both descriptive and explanatory research design where both qualitative and quantitative methods was used and the data analyze through both descriptive and inferential analysis methods. The study applied both qualitative and quantitative approach via employing descriptive and explanatory research designs to quench the specific and general objectives of the study. The study target populations of the study were comprised from private and public construction project in Dire Dawa Administration purposive sampling technique was used to select study participants and used census sampling technique because of the relatively low population size of the target population. Moreover, survey method through cross-sectional method of inquiry was employed to distribute and gather structured questionnaire from respondents of the study. Both descriptive and multiple linear regression were employed to satisfy specific objectives of this study. Pearson correlation analysis was used to establish and explain the relationship between the dependent and the independent variables. In addition, the mean and t-statistics results revealed that the average construction project monitoring and evaluation practices in private construction companies was significantly better than public construction companies. Pearson correlation coefficient results, Coefficient of highest correlation Organizational communication, at (r=.793, <0.05), whereas there was least relationship with Management support at (r=.375, <0.05). These implied that there were positive correlations between dependent and the independent variables. The findings reveal that the value of the determination coefficient test M&E factors causes 91.2 percent variation of project monitoring and evaluation practice in private and public construction companies. The multiple linear regression revealed Organizational strategy, Organizational communication, Organizational culture, Human resource capacity, and Budget allocation significantly determine construction project monitoring and evaluation practices in the study area since the p values of those antecedents is less than 0.05. However Management support practices wasn’t significantly influence monitoring and evaluation practices private and public construction project in DDA since the P-values were above 5%. The study recommend that the private and public construction leaders to play a critical role in M&E systems to optimize the organizational goals.
