"Toward Post-Symptomatic Rabies Treatment: A Conceptual Multi-Pronged Approach"
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Rabies remains one of the deadliest human infections once symptoms appear, with no proven therapy for post-symptomatic cases. This work proposes a conceptual multi-pronged framework that combines medically induced coma, targeted neural modulation, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-delivered antibodies, and comprehensive organ support. The strategy is designed to extend survival, create a therapeutic window, and directly address viral reservoirs in the central nervous system. While theoretical, this framework provides a structured foundation for experimental and translational research aimed at improving outcomes in symptomatic rabies patients.
