Entre Lo Rural y lo Digital: Juventud Campesina, Redes Sociales y Nuevas Formas de Habitar el Mundo
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: To conduct a state-of-the-art review based on a documentary analysis of scientific publications addressing the influence of social media on rural youth, with a special focus on peasant communities in southern Tolima, Colombia. Key areas explored include identity construction, political participation, psychosocial well-being, education, and digital inequality. Method: A narrative and systematic literature review was carried out, analyzing 30 academic documents selected based on thematic and methodological criteria. Sources were obtained from databases such as Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Google Scholar, focusing on studies published between 2012 and 2024. The analysis was structured around three thematic axes: (1) social media, identity and rural youth participation; (2) psychosocial impacts of social media use; and (3) education and the digital divide. Results: The review reveals a growing academic interest in the intersection between rural youth and digital environments. However, there remains a significant gap in studies focusing on specific territories such as southern Tolima. Social networks are described as spaces of identity reconfiguration, political expression, emotional vulnerability, and technological exclusion. Conclusions: Despite increasing research, there is still limited scientific production that integrates territorial, hermeneutic and decolonial approaches to the use of social media among rural youth. This gap highlights the need for situated qualitative research that recognizes rural youth as political and cultural subjects.
