The Meaning of Consciousness
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper proposes that consciousness functions as an invariant temporal background within the framework of relativity. While Einstein’s relativity demonstrates that time is relative—diverging across gravitational potentials and frames of motion—conscious experience of time remains unified and unbroken. I argue that this invariance of conscious time implies relativity is incomplete without acknowledging the role of consciousness. The paper explores implications for physics, philosophy, and neuroscience, outlines a minimal formal framework introducing an invariant conscious time parameter, and suggests experimental and observational considerations. This work positions consciousness as a hidden absolute that reconciles the fractured times of physical theory with the seamless flow of lived experience.
