Optimized degradation of brilliant green dye in aqueous solution using dextran-stabilized calcium peroxide nanoparticles

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this study, dextran-stabilized calcium peroxide nanoparticles (dex@CPnps) were synthesized through a precipitation method and evaluated for their efficiency in degrading brilliant green (BG) dye from aqueous solutions. The synthesized nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The oxidative degradation performance of synthesized dex@CPnps was investigated to examine the optimized conditions of oxidant dosage, solution pH, and contact time. A central composite design (CCD) combined with response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the process parameters, yielding a maximum degradation efficiency of 90.18 % under optimal condition (1.687 g/L, 5.076, and 46.556 min respectively for oxidant dosage, pH, and contact time). Further, the analysis on kinetic modeling indicated that the degradation followed a pseudo-second-order (PSO) model, with the highest rate constant (k₂) observed at 0.0871 M⁻¹min⁻¹ . The study demonstrated the use of dex@CPnps as a promising, eco-friendly solution for the effective removal of synthetic dyes from aqueous environment through an advanced oxidation process.
