Design of a Multimedia-Supported Children's Book for Teaching Planets to Children Aged 6–10

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT This study examines the design of a multimedia-supported children’s book aimed at teaching the Solar System and planets to children aged 6–10. Children’s literature supports cognitive, linguistic, and emotional development through age-appropriate language, characters, and themes. However, scientific fields such as astronomy often contain abstract concepts that are difficult for children to understand. Therefore, the book employs game-based learning techniques, animated visuals, and colorful vector illustrations to engage children and facilitate learning. The book includes puzzles, story-based games, and quizzes that encourage active participation and reinforce knowledge retention. Visual and multimedia content supports multi-sensory learning, helping to make abstract scientific concepts more concrete. Features such as QR codes with audio explanations and animations cater to different learning styles, making learning more effective and engaging. During the design process, the cognitive and linguistic development of children aged 6–10 was considered, and the content was simplified for clarity and comprehension. The study demonstrates that multimedia-supported materials are effective in increasing children’s scientific curiosity and supporting their learning processes. Furthermore, it addresses the lack of educational resources in Turkey, providing an innovative model for children’s literature and educational technology. In conclusion, multimedia-supported children’s books facilitate the understanding of complex and abstract scientific concepts, support learning processes, and enhance children’s interest in science. This study provides an exemplary model for designing educational materials for children and highlights the importance of combining literature and multimedia tools for effective science education.
