Advances in Foot Measurement: Implications for Physiotherapeutic Diagnosis and Intervention
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The human foot is a vital structure responsible for stability, balance, and efficient movement. Its anatomical complexity requires precise and reliable assessment methods, especially within physiotherapy practice. This study aims to present and analyze contemporary foot measurement techniques, including podometry, plantography, 3D scanning, baropodometric analysis, and functional testing. A comprehensive review of the scientific literature was conducted to evaluate the applicability, reliability, and clinical value of each method. The results demonstrate that digital technologies such as 3D scanning and baropodometry provide high accuracy and objectivity, while traditional techniques like podometry and plantography remain widely used due to their affordability and accessibility. Combining multiple methods enables comprehensive clinical evaluation. The choice of method should be guided by clinical objectives, resource availability, and the therapist’s expertise.
