Abstract: Code and data to reproduce all results and figures in:Kreider et al. 2026: “Comment on ‘Effect of Recent Prescribed Burning and Land Management on Wildfire Burn Severity and Smoke Emissions in the Western United States’ by Kelp Et Al.” Kelp et al. code: https://zenodo.org/records/18356055 In their code, Kelp et al. (2025) classify an entire prescribed fire treatment as "encountered" whenever any FINN emissions point falls within a buffer around a prescribed fire point. This approach results in extensive multi-counting of the same burned area. As a result, more area is calculated as encountered than actually has been treated. Correcting this error reverses a main conclusion of the paper: prescribed fire does not reduce net emissions.
