Abstract: The Sangam period was a golden age for Tamil music and drama. During that period, women had a special place. The women (Viraliyar) of the tribal Pankudi had diverse skills in art, politics, and social service. The purpose of this article is to examine the lives of the Viraliyars who had such special talents from a social perspective.
