Derivation of viṃśottarī daśā numbers

Abstract: The nascent and developing body of knowledge, theoretical astrology, is introduced with suggested avenues ofresearch. This paper, which is part of theoretical astrology, derives the vimshottari dasa numbers from zodiacal symmetriesand Lucas numbers—numbers that are related to the Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Ratio. First, some fundamentalproperties of the Fibonacci and Lucas integer sequences are reviewed. Next, the Vimshottari Dasa System is examined: newinterpretations of the Rahu and Ketu grahas are presented, and the Dasa/Bhukti system is analyzed in fractal terms and extendedto longer cycles. A dasa histogram is introduced and analyzed. The main portion of the paper is dedicated to the derivation ofthe dasa numbers. Some further links between the dasa numbers and the Golden Ratio are tabulated. The paper concludes withspeculations on the derivation of the dasa numbers from a historical perspective.
