Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate how the creation of firms by individual entrepreneurs or entrepreneurial teams generates different types of ventures and how economic freedom influences this process. The study focuses on comparing teams with individuals and the types of firms they created in terms of innovation, internationalization, and job creation, as well as the impact of economic freedom on these types of firms. Hypotheses are tested using a multilevel analysis of data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), collected over a three-year period (2014-2016), considering a sample of entrepreneurs from 65 countries. The results show that entrepreneurial teams create more innovative, more internationally oriented, and higher job-growth ventures compared to individual entrepreneurs. However, a country with higher level of economic freedom positively moderates such relationships, increasing the likelihood of entrepreneurial teams to create, more internationalised firms.
