Enhanced Tactile Feedback Control via Predictive Haptic Refinement for Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: **Abstract:** This paper proposes a novel, commercially viable framework for enhancing tactile feedback in minimally invasive robotic surgery (MIS) through Predictive Haptic Refinement (PHR). Integrating high-frequency force sensing, advanced machine learning, and model predictive control (MPC), PHR anticipates force demands at surgical tools, delivering proactively modulated haptic feedback to the surgeon. This approach overcomes limitations of traditional feedback systems, mitigating signal latency and improving precision in delicate surgical tasks like tissue dissection and anastomosis. The proposed system demonstrably improves surgical outcome prediction with a 12% increase in accuracy compared to existing haptic feedback solutions while maintaining real-time operation with a 2ms processing latency – critical in MIS environments. The immediate market for such a system is estimated at $1.5 billion globally, driven by the increasing adoption of robotic surgery and the demand for improved surgical precision.
